Tang Sanzang is one of the main characters in Journey To The West, the nick name is “Monk Tang”. In his previous life, he was Jin chanzi, the second disciple of the Rulai Buddha. He was demoted as a mortal because he despised the Dharma. Later, under the guidance of Guanyin Bodhisattva, he went to the west to learn scriptures. On the way, he received three disciples (Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, Sha Wujing) and a white dragon horse. Finally, under the protection of the disciples they went through 81 difficulties to reach the West, and Monk Tang was named "Buddha of Sandalwood Merit" by the Rulai Buddha.
